Ingredients

  • 1 c. molasses
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • cooked dried apples, mashed and sweetened
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Mix molasses, eggs, soda, vanilla, sugar, buttermilk, salt, and cinnamon.
  2. Add enough flour to make a stiff dough.
  3. Pat a thin layer of dough into cake pans.
  4. Repeat to make about 8 layers.
  5. Spread cooked dried apples between layers.
  6. Bake at 350°F for approximately 20 to 25 minutes or until the cakes begin to brown.
