Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 6 apples peeled, cored, and chopped
  • sugar
  • cinnamon
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups water

Instructions

  1. Sift the flour, salt, and baking powder together in a bowl.
  2. Cut in the shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add milk and mix until a soft dough forms.
  4. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness.
  5. Spread the chopped apples evenly over the dough.
  6. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon over the apples.
  7. Roll up the dough like a jelly roll and cut into slices.
  8. Arrange the slices in a greased 13 x 9-inch baking pan.
  9. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for about 30 minutes until golden.
