  • 4 c. prepared spaghetti sauce
  • 1 (8 oz.) box lasagna noodles
  • 1 lb. grated Mozzarella cheese
  • boiling water

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, brown ground beef and drain.
  2. Add spaghetti sauce to beef and mix thoroughly.
  3. Spread a thin layer of sauce mixture into the bottom of a 9 x 13-inch pan.
  4. Top with half of the raw lasagna noodles arranged to fit the pan.
  5. Top noodles with half of the remaining sauce mixture.
  6. Add half of the grated mozzarella cheese.
  7. Repeat layers with remaining noodles, sauce, and cheese.

Tips & Substitutions

For a richer flavor, consider adding some Italian herbs like oregano and basil to the sauce mixture. If you're short on time, you can use store-bought meat sauce instead of browning ground beef. Feel free to substitute cottage cheese for the mozzarella for a different texture, or add vegetables like spinach for added nutrition. This recipe is versatile and can be adapted just like my Italian casserole.

Serving Suggestions

This lasagna is perfect served with a crisp green salad and garlic bread for a complete meal. Pair it with a glass of red wine to enhance the flavors. For a twist, serve it alongside Yummy Spaghetti Sauce for dipping or drizzle some over the top before serving for added zest.

Storage & Reheating

Leftover lasagna can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place individual portions in the microwave for 1-2 minutes or bake in the oven at 350°F (175°C) until heated through, about 20 minutes. For best results, add a splash of water to keep it moist.

Can I use no-boil lasagna noodles in this recipe?

Yes, you can use no-boil lasagna noodles. Just layer them directly with the sauce and cheese as instructed. They will soften and cook properly during baking, but you may need to increase the baking time by about 10-15 minutes to ensure everything is heated through.

Can I make this lasagna ahead of time?

Absolutely! You can assemble the lasagna a day ahead and store it in the refrigerator. Just cover it tightly with plastic wrap. When ready to bake, remove it from the fridge and let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes before baking to ensure even cooking.

How can I make this recipe vegetarian?

To make this lasagna vegetarian, simply replace the ground beef with a mix of sautéed vegetables such as zucchini, bell peppers, and mushrooms. You can also add ricotta cheese for creaminess and enhance the flavor with Italian herbs. This variation will still be hearty and delicious.
