  • pepper to taste
  • 3 Tbsp. paprika
  • 1/8 cup hot water

Instructions

  1. Season inside and outside of turkey with salt and pepper.
  2. Dissolve paprika in hot water; blend in oil.
  3. Baste turkey with oil mixture.
  4. Place two heavy brown grocery bags together and brush inside of bag with remaining oil mixture, greasing well.
  5. Place turkey in bag, breast side up; close end of bag tightly.
  6. Place bag in baking pan.
  7. Bake in preheated 325°F oven for 15 minutes per pound.

Tips & Substitutions

For a more flavorful turkey, let it marinate with the oil mixture for a few hours or overnight. If you prefer, you can substitute the paprika with smoked paprika for a deeper flavor. Ensure your turkey is fully thawed before cooking for even baking. Using a meat thermometer will help you achieve the perfect doneness, ideally 165°F in the thickest part of the breast.

Serving Suggestions

Serve the turkey with classic sides such as mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, or cranberry sauce for a traditional feast. It pairs beautifully with Turkey Salad In Melon Shells for a refreshing twist. Consider offering a light gravy made from the drippings for added flavor, and don't forget to have warm rolls on the side.

Storage & Reheating

Leftover turkey should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator and can last up to four days. To reheat, place slices in a baking dish with a splash of broth and cover with foil, baking at 350°F until heated through. For longer storage, freeze leftovers in portions for up to three months.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know when the turkey is done cooking?

The best way to check if your turkey is fully cooked is to use a meat thermometer. Insert it into the thickest part of the breast, and ensure it reaches 165°F. If you don't have a thermometer, the juices should run clear when pierced, and the legs should move freely.

Can I use a different type of meat for this recipe?

Yes, this method can be adapted for different poultry, like chicken or duck. Cooking time will vary based on the size and type of meat, so adjust accordingly. A smaller chicken will take about 20 minutes per pound at the same temperature.

What can I do with leftover turkey?

Leftover turkey can be used in various dishes like sandwiches, salads, or soups. For something hearty, try making Skillet Stew or Turkey Salad In Melon Shells for a light meal. You can also chop it up for tacos or casseroles, making it versatile for many recipes.
