A flavorful and hearty beef and rice dish featuring tender steak simmered in soy sauce, onions, and garlic, perfect for satisfying weeknight dinners or family gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 to 1 1/2 lb. round steak
  • 2 Tbsp. oil
  • 2 medium onions
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 2 to 3 Tbsp. soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 c. water

Instructions

  1. Trim fat from the steak and cut it into 1/2-inch strips.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the steak and brown it, then remove from the skillet.
  4. Add the remaining oil to the skillet.
  5. Add chopped onions and garlic and cook until the onion is tender and transparent.
  6. Return the browned steak to the skillet.
  7. Add soy sauce, sugar, and water to the skillet.
  8. Cover and simmer over low heat for 1 hour or until the steak is tender, adding more water if needed.
  9. Serve the meat and pan drippings over rice.
