Ingredients

  • 2 heaping Tbsp. shortening
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1 c. flour
  • 1 c. cornmeal
  • 2 heaping tsp. baking powder

Instructions

  1. Mix shortening, salt, sugar, and egg together in a bowl.
  2. Add remaining ingredients: milk, flour, cornmeal, and baking powder, then combine.
  3. Beat the mixture for 3 to 5 minutes until smooth and well blended.
  4. Pour batter into a greased pan or muffin tins.
  5. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25 minutes until golden brown.
