Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup scalded milk
  • 2 Tbsp shortening
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 package yeast
  • 1/4 cup lukewarm water
  • 1 egg
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 3/4 cups sugar
  • 1 Tbsp cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Combine scalded milk, 1/4 cup sugar, salt, and shortening in a bowl.
  2. Cool the mixture to lukewarm temperature.
  3. Soften the yeast in lukewarm water.
  4. Add the yeast mixture to the cooled milk mixture.
  5. Stir in the egg.
  6. Add flour and work until smooth.
  7. Put the dough on a floured board and let rest for 10 minutes.
  8. Mix together the remaining sugar and cinnamon.
  9. Roll the dough out into a rectangular shape and brush with butter.
  10. Sprinkle with some of the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  11. Roll and cut slices about 1-inch thick.
  12. Put a generous amount of sugar on the work surface.
  13. Roll each slice until flat, creating a 5 to 6-inch circle.
  14. Place on a greased baking sheet and let rise for 30 minutes.
  15. Bake at 300°F (150°C) for 12 minutes.
