Ingredients

  • 6 c. white sugar
  • 3 Tbsp. white Karo syrup
  • 6 squares bitter chocolate
  • 1 large can evaporated milk
  • 1 small can evaporated milk
  • 3 tsp. vanilla

Instructions

  1. Mix sugar, Karo syrup, bitter chocolate, and evaporated milk in a saucepan and cook to soft ball stage.
  2. Remove from heat; add butter and vanilla without stirring.
  3. Let stand until you can hold the bottom of the pan comfortably.
  4. Leave the wooden spoon in the pan.
  5. Beat with electric beaters until the mixture stops looking waxy.
  6. Remove beaters and beat by hand until smooth and creamy.
