Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 package dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 3 eggs
  • 4 1/2 to 5 cups plain flour

Instructions

  1. Combine the milk, sugar, vegetable oil, and salt in a saucepan and heat until scalded.
  2. Cool the mixture to lukewarm (105° to 115°). Dissolve the dry yeast in warm water and add to the mixture.
  3. Add the beaten eggs to the mixture.
  4. Gradually mix in 4 1/2 cups of plain flour to form a smooth dough, beating 50 to 100 strokes by hand.
  5. If the dough is too sticky, add more flour until it no longer sticks to the sides of the bowl.
  6. Place the dough in an oiled bowl and turn to grease the top.
  7. Cover the bowl and let the dough rise until doubled in size.
