Ingredients

  • 1 stick butter or margarine
  • 1 cup Crisco
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 6 eggs
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour or cake flour
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon lemon extract (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda

Instructions

  1. Cream butter, Crisco, and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  3. Combine and sift all dry ingredients together.
  4. Add dry ingredients and sour cream to the creamed mixture alternately, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
  5. Add vanilla and lemon extract (if using) to the mixture and mix well.
  6. Pour batter into a prepared loaf pan and bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
