  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Separate egg yolks and whites.
  3. Beat egg yolks; add sugar, flour, vanilla, salt, and vinegar; mix well.
  4. Pour milk into a saucepan. Add grated coconut and margarine.
  5. Heat on medium until margarine melts. Cool slightly.
  6. Pour the coconut mixture into the beaten egg yolk mixture and stir to combine.
  7. Pour the filling into an unbaked pie shell.
  8. Bake for 10 minutes at 425°F (220°C).
  9. Reduce oven temperature to 350°F (175°C).
  10. Bake for an additional 30 minutes until the filling is firm.
  11. Top with meringue and bake until golden brown.
