Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 3 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 pound dates, chopped fine
  • 1 pound orange slice candy, cut fine
  • 2 cups chopped nuts
  • 1 small can coconut

Instructions

  1. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  3. Dissolve soda in buttermilk and add to the creamed mixture.
  4. Mix in the orange slices, chopped dates, nuts, and coconut, coating them with flour.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the creamed ingredients, mixing well.
  6. Pour the batter into a greased and floured tube pan.
  7. Bake at 250°F (120°C) for approximately 2 1/2 to 3 hours until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
