Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 packages yeast
  • 1/2 cup lukewarm water
  • 1/3 to 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 6 to 7 cups flour

Instructions

  1. Add shortening to hot milk and stir until melted and well combined.
  2. Allow the milk to cool to lukewarm temperature.
  3. Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water and add to the cooled milk mixture.
  4. Add sugar, salt, eggs, and flour to the mixture.
  5. Mix well and let stand in a bowl for 20 minutes.
  6. Knead the dough for a minute or two until smooth.
  7. Shape the dough into rolls and place on a baking sheet.
  8. Let the rolls rise until doubled in size.
  9. Bake in a hot oven at 425°F (220°C) until golden brown, about 20 minutes.
  10. Remove from oven and brush with butter.
