Ingredients

  • 1 c. soft shortening
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 4 Tbsp. cream
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 5 c. sifted flour
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 jar raspberry or your favorite flavor preserves

Instructions

  1. Mix the shortening, sugar, and eggs thoroughly.
  2. Stir in cream and vanilla.
  3. Add the sifted flour, soda, and salt; stir well.
  4. Chill the dough for 1 hour.
  5. Preheat oven to 400°F.
  6. Roll out the dough to 1/16-inch thickness.
  7. Cut out circles with a cookie cutter, two for each turnover.
  8. Place one piece of dough on a lightly greased baking sheet.
  9. Add a rounded teaspoonful of preserves on top.
  10. Cover with another piece of dough and pinch the edges together.
  11. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes until golden.
