Creamy fish fillets thermidor features tender fish topped with a cheesy lemon sauce, ideal for elegant dinners or special occasions, offering rich flavors with a citrus twist.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. fish fillets
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 3 tablespoons margarine, melted
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 1/4 lb. Cheddar cheese, grated
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Split fish fillets lengthwise and roll up; secure with toothpicks if necessary.
  3. Place the rolled fillets in a shallow baking dish.
  4. Pour milk over the fish; season with salt and pepper.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
  6. Remove from oven and pour off the milk.
  7. In a saucepan, slowly add milk to melted margarine into which flour has been stirred.
  8. Add grated Cheddar cheese and stir until melted and smooth.
  9. Stir in lemon juice and pour the sauce over the baked fillets.
  10. Briefly brown the fillets under the broiler until golden.
