Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups unsweetened pineapple juice
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1/3 cup orange juice frozen concentrate, thawed
  • 1 medium banana, pureed
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 (12 oz.) cans lemon-lime soda, chilled

Instructions

  1. In a 2-quart pitcher, combine pineapple juice, water, orange juice concentrate, banana and honey; mix well.
  2. Pour the mixture into a 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan.
  3. Cover and freeze several hours or until firm.
  4. To serve, thaw the juice mixture at room temperature about 30 minutes or until able to scrape surface of mixture to form a slush.
  5. For each serving, place 1/3 cup of the slush in a glass and add 1/4 cup of chilled lemon-lime soda.

Tips & Substitutions

For a sweeter slush, consider adding more honey or using ripe bananas, which are naturally sweeter. You can substitute the pineapple juice with other fruit juices like mango or peach for different flavors. If you want a healthier version, swap in agave syrup for honey or use sparkling water instead of soda for a lighter drink.

Serving Suggestions

Serve the fizzy fruit slush in chilled glasses for a refreshing treat, especially on hot days. It pairs beautifully with Peachy Fruit Kabobs for a fun summer gathering. For an adult version, consider adding a splash of rum or vodka to the slush for a festive cocktail.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftover slush in an airtight container in the freezer for up to a week. To serve again, let it thaw slightly at room temperature before scraping the surface to create a slushy texture. Avoid refreezing after it has thawed to maintain its best texture.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this slush ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the slush a day in advance. Just make sure to cover it well in the loaf pan to prevent ice crystals from forming. When ready to serve, let it sit at room temperature to soften slightly before scraping.

What can I use instead of banana?

If you're looking for a substitute for banana, you could use pureed mango or avocado for a creamy texture. Alternatively, omitting the banana will still yield a delicious slush, though the texture may be slightly different.

Is this recipe suitable for kids?

Absolutely! This fizzy fruit slush is a kid-friendly recipe packed with fruity flavors and bubbles. Just be mindful of the sweetness, and feel free to adjust the honey or soda to suit your children's taste.
