Flatbrod is a traditional Scandinavian flatbread with a crispy texture and rich flavor from lard or shortening, perfect for snacking or breakfast with butter.

Ingredients

  • 2 c. white flour
  • 2 c. all-bran
  • 3/4 c. lard or shortening
  • 1 1/2 c. boiling water
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. sugar

Instructions

  1. Mix white flour, all-bran, salt, sugar, and fat (lard or shortening) together until well combined.
  2. Add boiling water gradually, stirring to form a dough. Let cool.
  3. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to desired thickness.
  4. Bake on a griddle until just browned.
  5. Place the baked flatbread on a cookie sheet and bake in a 250°F oven until crisp.
  6. Break into pieces and serve with butter.
