Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup butter or part other shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup milk or water
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3 cups cake flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Cream the butter or shortening thoroughly in a deep bowl until soft.
  2. Gradually add sugar, beating until the mixture is fluffy and light like whipped cream.
  3. Add eggs, beaten until light.
  4. Sift dry ingredients together (flour, salt, baking powder).
  5. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk or water, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients.
  6. Beat thoroughly and add vanilla flavoring.
  7. Pour batter into prepared pans and bake in a preheated 375°F oven for 30 minutes.
