Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup sifted flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons salad oil
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 3 medium Bermuda onions, peeled
  • shortening for frying

Instructions

  1. Sift flour and salt into a bowl.
  2. Add milk, salad oil, and beaten egg to the dry ingredients.
  3. Beat until smooth to make the batter.
  4. Cut onions into 1/4-inch slices and separate into rings.
  5. Dip each onion ring into the batter, ensuring it is well coated.
  6. Drain excess batter from the rings.
  7. Heat shortening to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Drop the coated onion rings into the hot shortening.
  9. Fry for 2 to 3 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown.
  10. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels before serving.
