Festive and creamy, this classic eggnog combines rich eggs, sweet sugar, fragrant nutmeg, and a hint of rum flavoring, perfect for holiday celebrations and gatherings.

- Beat egg yolks in a bowl until smooth.
- Combine egg yolks and sugar in the top of a double boiler over hot water.
- Gradually stir in milk.
- Cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture coats the back of a spoon. Remove from heat and refrigerate until chilled.
- Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form.
- Fold the beaten egg whites and whipped cream into the chilled egg yolk mixture.
- Stir in rum flavoring.
- Chill for several hours to blend flavors.
- Just before serving, stir in vanilla extract, sprinkle with ground nutmeg.
