Festive and creamy, this classic eggnog combines rich eggs, sweet sugar, fragrant nutmeg, and a hint of rum flavoring, perfect for holiday celebrations and gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 12 eggs, separated
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 4 cups milk
  • 1 cup whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup rum flavoring
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Beat egg yolks in a bowl until smooth.
  2. Combine egg yolks and sugar in the top of a double boiler over hot water.
  3. Gradually stir in milk.
  4. Cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture coats the back of a spoon. Remove from heat and refrigerate until chilled.
  5. Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form.
  6. Fold the beaten egg whites and whipped cream into the chilled egg yolk mixture.
  7. Stir in rum flavoring.
  8. Chill for several hours to blend flavors.
  9. Just before serving, stir in vanilla extract, sprinkle with ground nutmeg.
