Ingredients

  • 6 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 teaspoon mixed pickling spices
  • 2 stalks celery
  • 2 pounds medium or large fresh or frozen shrimp

Instructions

  1. Combine water, salt, vinegar, bay leaves, spices, and celery in a large pot. Bring to a boil.
  2. Add shrimp (in shell or peeled and deveined). Cover and bring to a boil again.
  3. Lower heat and simmer gently for 5 minutes or until shrimp turn pink. Drain.
  4. If cooked in shell, peel shrimp and remove the veins that run down the back.
  5. Serve as an appetizer.
  6. Chill and pass cocktail sauce.
