Sweet and savory fried carrots and apples combine tender slices with caramelized flavors, perfect for a comforting side dish for family dinners or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 6 medium carrots
  • 6 tart apples
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. salt

Instructions

  1. Scrape the carrots and cut them lengthwise into thin slices.
  2. Pare the apples, core, and cut into slices about 1/4 inch thick.
  3. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  4. Place a single layer of the apples and carrots in the skillet once the butter has melted.
  5. Cover tightly and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  6. Turn and brown the other side for an additional 5 minutes.
  7. Just before finishing, sprinkle with sugar and salt.
  8. Serve on a hot platter.
