- Grease an 8-inch square baking pan.
- Cook the quick cooking grits in 4 cups of water until absorbed.
- Stir in 2 cups of cheese and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper; pour into the prepared pan.
- Cover and refrigerate for 4 hours.
- Cut the chilled grits into 4-inch bars and remove from the pan.
- Coat the grits bars with flour.
- Arrange the coated bars on a cookie sheet and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Heat 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pan or skillet.
- Coat the grits again with flour.
- Fry the bars until golden brown.
- Drain on paper towels.
- Serve hot with cheese sauce.
