Ingredients

  • 1 cup quick cooking grits
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 cups cheese
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • flour
  • vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Grease an 8-inch square baking pan.
  2. Cook the quick cooking grits in 4 cups of water until absorbed.
  3. Stir in 2 cups of cheese and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper; pour into the prepared pan.
  4. Cover and refrigerate for 4 hours.
  5. Cut the chilled grits into 4-inch bars and remove from the pan.
  6. Coat the grits bars with flour.
  7. Arrange the coated bars on a cookie sheet and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  8. Heat 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pan or skillet.
  9. Coat the grits again with flour.
  10. Fry the bars until golden brown.
  11. Drain on paper towels.
  12. Serve hot with cheese sauce.
