Ingredients

  • 1 lb. round steak, cut in 1/4-inch strips
  • oil
  • 1 lb. onions, sliced
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • water
  • 1 to 2 cups sliced celery
  • cornstarch
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar

Instructions

  1. Cook steak in a small amount of oil until slightly browned.
  2. Add sliced onions and cook until transparent.
  3. Add soy sauce, sugar, and 2 cups of water.
  4. Cook until the meat is tender, about 1 1/2 to 2 hours, adding water as necessary.
  5. Add sliced mushrooms and celery.
  6. Cook for 15 minutes longer and thicken with a desired amount of cornstarch mixed with water.
  7. Serve on rice.
