Ingredients

  • 2 cups plain flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 sticks margarine
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 scant teaspoon soda

Instructions

  1. Put the flour and sugar into a mixing bowl; mix well.
  2. Put the cocoa, water, margarine and vanilla in a saucepan.
  3. Bring this mixture to a boil; pour over the flour and sugar mixture.
  4. Mix well, then add the eggs, buttermilk, and soda.
  5. Bake at 350°F for 40 minutes in a 9 x 13-inch pan.
