Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 3/4 cup confectioners sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

  • semi-sweet chocolate pieces

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Mix thoroughly softened butter, confectioners sugar, vanilla, and a few drops of food coloring.
  3. Work in flour and salt until the dough holds together.
  4. If the dough is dry, mix in 1 to 2 tablespoons of light cream.
  5. Shape the dough into cookies and decorate with dates, nuts, chocolate pieces, cherries, and icing as desired.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven until cookies are lightly golden, about 10 minutes.
