Gawumke are savory cabbage rolls filled with seasoned ground beef and rice, wrapped in tender cabbage leaves, making a comforting dish perfect for family dinners and gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb hamburger
  • 1 cup rice
  • 1 head cabbage
  • 1 or 2 eggs
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • small minced onion

Instructions

  1. Mix together all ingredients except the cabbage.
  2. Boil the cabbage to soften the leaves.
  3. Cut the leaves off the core of the cabbage.
  4. Thin out the thick part of each cabbage leaf near the core.
  5. Scoop some of the mixture into each cabbage leaf and roll tight, tucking in the ends.
  6. Repeat until all mixture is used.
  7. Spray a baking dish and place the cabbage rolls in the dish.
  8. Pour sauce over the rolls and bake until cooked through.
