Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 3 1/2 cups cake flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 6 egg yolks
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons double-acting baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Grease and flour a 10-inch Bundt pan or two 9 x 5-inch loaf pans.
  3. In a large bowl, measure sugar and softened butter; beat with a mixer at high speed until light and fluffy.
  4. Add flour, milk, egg yolks, baking powder, vanilla extract, and salt; beat at low speed until well mixed, scraping the bowl with a rubber spatula as needed.
  5. Increase to high speed and beat for 4 minutes, occasionally scraping the bowl.
  6. Pour batter into prepared pan(s).
  7. Bake in the Bundt pan for 1 hour or in loaf pans for 45 to 50 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Cool the cake in the pan on a wire rack for 10 minutes, then remove from the pan and cool completely on the rack.
  9. Optional: Ice the cake if desired.
