German Rolled Beef features tender rolled steaks filled with onions and pickles, browned to perfection, then simmered in flavorful gravy—an ideal hearty dish for family dinners.

Ingredients

  • 2 thinly sliced round steaks
  • 2 tsp mustard
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 1 medium onion
  • 1 small dill pickle
  • 2 slices bacon

Instructions

  1. Sprinkle meat tenderizers on each side of the steaks and pound them flat.
  2. Spread mustard thinly over each piece of meat; season with salt and pepper.
  3. Sprinkle chopped onion and pickle over each piece, then place bacon slices on top.
  4. Roll up each steak and fasten with toothpicks to secure.
  5. Brown the rolled steaks in a small amount of fat in a skillet.
  6. Add 1/2 cup water to the skillet and simmer the rolled steaks for about 1 hour or until tender.
  7. Use flour mixed with water to make a paste and thicken the gravy.
  8. Serve the rolled beef with the gravy poured over.
