Ingredients

  • 1 lb. bacon
  • 2 cans or 2 lb. sauerkraut
  • 1 large onion
  • salt
  • pepper
  • garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Chop the bacon into small squares and fry at medium heat in a large saucepan until browned.
  2. Do not drain the fat from the pan.
  3. Drain excess water from the sauerkraut, and rinse with cold water if necessary to remove excess salt.
  4. Stir the sauerkraut into the bacon and its fat in the saucepan.
  5. Add the chopped onion, two pinches of garlic powder, and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Slowly cook the mixture for about 45 to 60 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauerkraut becomes tender.
