- Chop the bacon into small squares and fry at medium heat in a large saucepan until browned.
- Do not drain the fat from the pan.
- Drain excess water from the sauerkraut, and rinse with cold water if necessary to remove excess salt.
- Stir the sauerkraut into the bacon and its fat in the saucepan.
- Add the chopped onion, two pinches of garlic powder, and season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Slowly cook the mixture for about 45 to 60 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauerkraut becomes tender.
