Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 c. sorghum molasses
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 3/4 c. Crisco (butter flavor preferred)
  • 1 c. boiling water plus 1 Tbsp. instant coffee
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. ginger
  • 1 Tbsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Instructions

  1. Blend Crisco
  2. and
  3. sugar.
  4. Add
  5. syrup.
  6. Add
  7. eggs, then flour mixture.
  8. Add
  9. soda
  10. to
  11. boiling water and add slowly to first mixture and beat thoroughly.
  12. Bake at 350° until cake is springy and comes away from pan, about 30 minutes.
