Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups molasses
  • 6 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2/3 cup cold water
  • 2 teaspoons soda
  • 1 teaspoon allspice
  • 1 teaspoon cloves

Instructions

  1. Mix together the shortening, molasses, flour, salt, ginger, cinnamon, brown sugar, cold water, soda, allspice, and cloves until well combined.
  2. Thin the dough, roll it out onto a floured surface, cut into desired shapes, and bake in a 350°F oven for 15 minutes.
