Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a medium-sized glass dish with shortening.
  2. Slice apples and arrange them in the dish until it is two-thirds full.
  3. Mix 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon and pour over the apples.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine shortening, egg, 1/2 cup sugar, flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt to form a dough.
  5. Add enough milk to the mixture to make a thick dough.
  6. Pour the dough over the apples in the dish.
  7. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes until the top is golden brown and the dish is cooked through.
