Ingredients

  • 2 cups skim milk
  • 2 tablespoons lite margarine
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • pinch of salt
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 4 cups coarse bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup raisins

Instructions

  1. Add the margarine, sugar, salt, and raisins to the milk and heat until the margarine melts and mixture is warm.
  2. Mix flour with a small amount of the warm milk mixture until smooth.
  3. Add the flour mixture back into the milk mixture and heat almost to a boil, stirring constantly.
  4. Pour the hot mixture over the bread crumbs and let stand for about 5 minutes to absorb.
  5. Add the nutmeg and stir well to combine.
  6. Pour the mixture into a lightly greased 1 1/2-quart casserole dish.
  7. Bake at 350°F for 50 to 55 minutes until golden and set.
