Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 3/4 c. dark brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 2 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 3/4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp. ginger
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 c. milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°.
  2. Mix together butter and brown sugar. Beat in eggs.
  3. Combine remaining dry ingredients.
  4. Combine vanilla with milk and stir into batter alternately with dry ingredients. Pour into greased 9-inch square pan and bake for 1 hour or until middle tests done.
  5. May be served plain or with vanilla ice cream or lemon sauce.
