Tips & Substitutions

For a more robust flavor, consider adding olives or cherry tomatoes to the salad. If you prefer a different cheese, feta or goat cheese can be great alternatives to Muenster. For a tangier dressing, try substituting red wine vinegar for the salad vinegar. Make sure to use fresh lettuce for the best texture and taste.

Serving Suggestions

This Great Italian Salad pairs beautifully with Italian garlic bread, making it a perfect starter or side dish. It also complements heartier Italian recipes like Nana's Lasagne or Pasta Oklla Norma. For a complete meal, serve alongside grilled chicken or fish for added protein.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftover salad in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. To prevent the greens from wilting, keep the dressing separate until ready to serve. If the salad becomes soggy, you can crisp it up by tossing in a few fresh lettuce leaves before serving.

Can I make this salad ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the ingredients a few hours in advance. However, it's best to keep the dressing separate until just before serving to maintain the crispness of the lettuce.

What can I use instead of salad oil?

You can substitute salad oil with olive oil for a richer flavor. Alternatively, avocado oil or a blend of oils can also work well in this recipe.

How can I make this salad more filling?

To make the salad more filling, consider adding protein such as grilled chicken, chickpeas, or beans. Quinoa or pasta can also be incorporated for a heartier dish.
