Ingredients
- 2 cups mostaccioli ⓘ
- 3 tablespoons butter ⓘ
- 3/4 cup chopped onion ⓘ
- 3/4 cup chopped celery ⓘ
- 1 to 2 cloves garlic, minced ⓘ
- 2 (6 oz.) cans tomato paste ⓘ
- 2 cups water ⓘ
- 1 teaspoon basil ⓘ
- 1 teaspoon oregano ⓘ
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper ⓘ
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar ⓘ
- 2/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese ⓘ
- 1 pound Ricotta cheese ⓘ
Instructions
- Cook mostaccioli according to package directions.
- Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add chopped onion, chopped celery, and minced garlic; cook until golden.
- Add tomato paste, water, basil, oregano, salt, pepper, and sugar; stir well.
- Cover and cook the sauce for about 20 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a 2-quart casserole dish, spread a thin layer of sauce on the bottom.
- Sprinkle with one-third of the grated Parmesan cheese.
- Layer half of the cooked mostaccioli, Ricotta cheese, sauce, and remaining Parmesan cheese.
- Repeat the layering with the remaining ingredients.
- Bake uncovered for about 25 minutes until hot, bubbly, and golden brown.
