Gulasch(German Stew)
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 lb. lean stew meat ⓘ
- 2 medium onions, chopped ⓘ
- 2 cloves garlic, chopped ⓘ
- 2 c. fresh mushrooms, sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- salt to taste ⓘ
- 1 Tbsp. paprika powder ⓘ
- pepper to taste ⓘ
- 2 beef bouillon cubes ⓘ
- cooking spray or oil ⓘ
- 1 c. red wine ⓘ
- 2 Tbsp. sour cream ⓘ
- 3 1/2 c. water ⓘ
- cornstarch ⓘ
Instructions
- Heat oil or cooking spray in nonstick skillet or Dutch oven. Brown meat until dark brown; add onions, garlic, salt, paprika powder and pepper.
- Stir and brown until onions are golden brown. Add 3 cups of the water; bring to boil.
- Add bouillon cubes, mushrooms and bell pepper.
- Simmer for about 45 to 60 minutes until meat is tender.
- Add wine; bring to a boil.
- Mix cornstarch and water.
- Stir into gravy until the gravy starts to thicken. Turn off heat; add sour cream.
- Serve over hot noodles.
