Ham Filled Angel Biscuits

Ingredients

  • 4 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 Tbsp. baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 2 pkg. dry yeast
  • 1/4 c. warm water
  • 2 c. buttermilk
  • melted butter
  • sliced ham

Instructions

  1. Combine first 5 ingredients.
  2. Mix well.
  3. Cut in shortening. Dissolve yeast in water.
  4. Add yeast mixture and buttermilk to flour mixture, mixing well. Turn dough out on a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic (about 8 to 10 minutes). Roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness and brush with melted butter.
  5. Cut with 2-inch biscuit cutter and place 1/2-inch apart on greased baking dish.
  6. Fill with sliced ham.
  7. Top each with a second biscuit. Bake at 400° for 12 to 15 minutes.
  8. Yields about 3 dozen.
