Ingredients

  • 2 c. flour
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 1 egg (optional)
  • vanilla or cinnamon-sugar mix

Instructions

  1. Mix all dry ingredients together in a bowl.
  2. Work in shortening as for pie dough until crumbly.
  3. Add liquids (milk and egg if used) and stir until just combined.
  4. Pour batter into a greased 9x13-inch pan or divide into smaller pans.
  5. Bake at 375° to 400° Fahrenheit until golden and cooked through.
  6. Serve warm or cooled, topped with vanilla or cinnamon-sugar, with fruit and milk if desired.
