Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 4 cups self-rising flour
  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1 tablespoon sugar

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water and set aside.
  2. Mix dry ingredients in a large bowl.
  3. Cut in shortening, then add buttermilk and yeast water.
  4. Mix well.
  5. Cover dough with a towel and let set overnight.
  6. Next morning, pour dough out on a floured board and knead lightly for a minute or two.
  7. Roll out and cut biscuits.
  8. Bake at 500°F until done.
