Ingredients

  • 1 baked 9-inch pie shell
  • 1 quart fresh strawberries
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 1/2 to 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons strawberry jello
  • several drops red cake coloring

Instructions

  1. Wash strawberries; drain and pat them dry with paper towels.
  2. In a saucepan, cook water, sugar, and cornstarch until thickened.
  3. Remove from stove.
  4. Add strawberry jello and red cake coloring to the mixture and stir well.
  5. Pour the hot filling over the strawberries; mix to coat evenly.
  6. Pour the mixture into the baked 9-inch pie shell.
  7. Refrigerate for 2 to 3 hours until set.
  8. Before serving, top with Cool Whip.
