Ingredients

  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup butter, margarine, or shortening
  • 3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
  2. Cream butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add egg yolks and beat well.
  4. Add flour and milk alternately, beating well after each addition.
  5. Pour the batter into a greased and floured 8 x 8 x 2-inch pan.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes.
  7. Spread with frosting when cool.
