Ingredients

  • 4 slices bread, lightly buttered and cubed
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • raisins (optional)

Instructions

  1. Place the cubed, buttered bread in a baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, beat together eggs, milk, sugar, and salt.
  3. Pour the egg mixture over the bread in the dish.
  4. Add vanilla and raisins, then mix gently.
  5. Place the baking dish in a pan of hot water.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 40 minutes, or until the center is firm and a knife inserted comes out clean.
