Heath Toffee Bars

Ingredients

  • 2 c. brown sugar
  • 2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. butter or margarine
  • 1 egg
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Sift flour, sugar and salt.
  2. Cut in shortening as in pie crust. Reserve 1 cup of this mixture.
  3. Add beaten egg and buttermilk in which soda has been dissolved and vanilla.
  4. Beat only until thoroughly mixed.
  5. Pour into greased 12 x 8-inch cake pan.
  6. Top with a cup of reserved mixture, nuts and chopped Heath bars.
  7. Bake at 350° for 35 minutes.
