- In a large bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, yeast, and salad dressing mix; mix well.
- Heat buttermilk, water, and shortening until warm.
- Add the warm mixture to the flour mixture.
- Add the egg and blend well until moistened.
- Beat for 3 minutes on medium speed.
- Gradually stir in remaining flour until a firm dough forms.
- Knead until smooth, about 5 to 10 minutes, then place in a greased bowl.
- Cover and let rise in a warm oven.
- Turn oven to 200°F for 1 minute, then turn off and leave the dough to rise.
- Punch down the dough and divide into two parts.
- Roll each part into a 12 x 7-inch rectangle, then roll up, sealing edges and ends.
- Place seam side down on a cookie sheet.
- Make diagonal slits 2 inches apart on top of each loaf.
- Cover and let rise in a warm oven for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
- Bake at 375°F for 25 to 30 minutes.
- Brush the loaves with melted butter and sprinkle with dressing mix.
