- With a serrated edge knife, cut off the top, side, and end crusts of the bread, leaving the bottom crust intact.
- Cut the bread in half lengthwise and into 3/4-inch pieces crosswise, leaving the bottom attached.
- Cream the softened butter in a bowl.
- Add salt and Worcestershire sauce to the butter and mix well.
- Place thyme and marjoram leaves in the palm of your hand and crush lightly to release their oils.
- Add the crushed herbs to the butter and mix thoroughly.
- Spread all cut surfaces of the bread, inside and out, with the herb butter.
- Place the prepared bread on a rimmed baking sheet.
- Bake uncovered in a 325°F (160°C) oven for about 30 minutes, or until the bread is crisp.
- Serve hot.
