Ingredients

  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 3/4 cup Crisco
  • 4 tablespoons water

Instructions

  1. Mix the flour, salt, and sugar in a bowl.
  2. Cut in the Crisco until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add water gradually and mix until a firm dough forms.
  4. Work the dough into a ball, then divide into two halves.
  5. On a lightly floured surface, roll one half into about a 10-inch square.
  6. Cut the rolled dough into four 5-inch squares or circles.
  7. Repeat with the second half of the dough after filling the first four.
  8. Prepare dried fruit by cooking until tender, sweeten to taste, and add enough water to prevent sticking.
  9. Fill each dough square or circle with the prepared fruit.
  10. Seal the edges well.
  11. Fry in about 1 inch of Crisco over medium heat, turning once, until golden brown.
