Hjortetakk are traditional Scandinavian fried doughnuts with a light, crispy texture and subtle sweetness, perfect for festive occasions or as a delightful treat with coffee.

Ingredients

  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cube butter
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon kjortonsalt
  • about 2 pounds shortening

Instructions

  1. Beat the sugar and eggs well in a mixing bowl.
  2. Melt the butter and allow it to cool slightly.
  3. Add sifted flour and kjortonsalt to the egg mixture and mix well.
  4. Let the dough stand in the refrigerator overnight.
  5. Roll the dough into long sticks about the thickness of your finger.
  6. Cut the dough into circles and cross the ends to form a ring.
  7. Fry the doughnuts in about 2 pounds of hot shortening until golden brown.
