Ingredients

  • 12 egg yolks
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 large cake yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 8 cups flour
  • egg white

Instructions

  1. Beat egg yolks and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Mix yeast and warm water; let set for 5 minutes.
  3. Heat milk and butter; cool until lukewarm.
  4. Add milk mixture, yeast, vanilla to egg mixture. Mix in flour and knead for 10 minutes.
  5. Put dough in a greased bowl; punch down. Let rise again; punch down.
  6. Shape dough into regular loaves or braided loaves.
  7. Brush gently with egg white.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30 minutes.
